No Sun = Money Back

One of the more unusual summer offers was announced this week by lodgings provider P&V. The company has offered to refund customers up to one hundred and fifty euro if there are four or more days of rain per week. The offer is valid at all Pierre et Vacances properties in France.

The offer has been made in partnership with insurance providers EuropAssistance. The plan is to look at satellite pictures courtesy of the weather bureau in France in order to see if claims are valid. Once a decision has been made customers will be informed.

Pierre et Vacances offers accommodation in many popular sunshine destinations in France such as Nice, Brittany and the Dordogne region. Speaking on behalf of P&V Cathy Rankin said that one third of UK customers have signed up for the Sunshine Guarantee insurance policy. She hopes that more people will take advantage of the offer over the summer.

After some horrendous summers weather wise in Ireland and the UK over the last few years its good to see a company thinking outside the box and coming up with a unique idea. The offer is only available in France and must be used before the 12th of October.

If it’s Good Enough for U2..

The Irish rock band U2 has confirmed the South of France as their base for their forthcoming European Tour. The group own holiday properties on the Cote D’Azur. They will have constant access to a private plane which will be based at Nice Airport.

Included in the bands tour itinerary are cities such a Milan, Berlin, London and Barcelona. The tour will begin on June 30th. The group will fly from Nice to each concert. Family members are also expected to be based in Nice.

Band members Bono and the Edge have been regular visitors to the region for almost twenty years. The Edge bought the house next door to Bono after his first marriage broke down. A swimming pool is all that separates the houses.

The Edge put the purchase of the holiday home down to good timing. He actually got married in the region for a second time seven years ago. The other members have U2 Larry and Adam have holiday homes close by.

To complete the circle the bands manager Paul McGuinness bought a home in Nice seven years ago.

So if it’s good enough for U2, What are you waiting for?

French VAT Drop Good News for Holidaymakers

There was good news last week for those planning a holiday or business trip to France. The French government has reduced the VAT in restaurants and cafes by a whopping 14.1%.

The changes will come into place on June 1st meaning at least a ten percent decrease in prices. Considering how expensive food and drink can be in certain parts of France this could mean a significant saving.

With so much cost cutting taking place in Ireland at the moment the news will help push France back up the ladder of holiday destinations. France has seen a drop in its UK tourism numbers due to the weak pound which is twelve percent lower than it was this time last year.

The timing is perfect for the French tourism industry with summer just about to really kick off. In Spain, Holland and Belgium similar measures have been made in order to boost tourism with government cuts on airline taxes.

How about something similar here in Ireland Mr. Cowen?
